WP5: Power Regulation by Voltage Control - Summary

Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR): a study combining measurement and analysis

A study on possibilities to curtail the power use in a grid by reducing voltage levels. CVR enables peak shaving, increases capacity and optimized operation. This requires increased measurements and communication costs, resulting in reliability risks and risk of violating power quality. Since the effectiveness of CVR is closely related to the type of connected load, the need of predictable load patterns and detailed information about load composition is crucial. Finally, the regulation of voltage needs to be dynamic and close to the loads, e.g. by an online tap-changer at the secondary substation.
